AUTHOR'S CORRECTION

Novel Carbapenem-Hydrolyzing β-Lactamase, KPC-1, from a Carbapenem-Resistant Strain of Klebsiella pneumoniae

Valldemosa, Palma de Mallorca, 07071, Spain

Volume 45, no. 4, p. 1151-1161, 2001. Page 1156, Fig. 4: An error in a single base in the coding region of blaKPC-1 has been detected. The codon sequence at position 174 (nucleotide positions 650 to 652 in the sequence with Genbank accession no. AF297554) reported as AGC, encoding serine (S), should be GGC, encoding glycine (G).

Page 1157, Fig. 5: Amino acid 175 (using the Ambler numbering system) of KPC-1 should be glycine (G), not serine (S).

Thus, blaKPC-1 is identical to blaKPC-2 and KPC-1 is identical to KPC-2.

We acknowledge J. Kamile Rasheed, Brandon J. Kitchel, and Jean B. Patel for their contributions to this correction.
