We used sequencing and PCR mapping to investigate the regions flanking the blaCMY-2 ß-lactamase gene carried by plasmids from Escherichia coli and Salmonella enterica. Results revealed genetic heterogeneity in the region downstream from blaCMY-2 and identified a putative transposable element bearing blaCMY-2.
