3845 isolates from invasive pneumococcal disease in German adults were investigated between 1992 and 2004. 430 isolates were erythromycin-A non-susceptible (11.2%). Macrolide-resistance genotypes and MLSTs were determined. 35.6% were erm(B)-positive and 63.5% mef-positive. Resistance rose significantly from 2.2% to 17.0% (p<0.001). A serotype 14, ST9 clone was the most widespread.
