  • a Viability is expressed as a percentage of that of control cells incubated under identical conditions in the absence of inhibitor. The results are means ± standard errors of the means of at least four replicate determinations. Control counts gave mean values of 14.7 × 106 ± 1.5 × 106 cells/ml for planktonic cells and 1.9 × 106 ± 0.1 × 106 cells/disk for biofilms. Viable counts were determined by the standard procedure of serial dilution followed by plating. For biofilm counts, cells from triplicate disks were resuspended in 3 ml of PBS and were then diluted and plated.
